The Leveled Classes February Student of the Month is Libee Gartrell.

Libee is a 5th grade student at Woodward Middle School. She is in Jazz 3 and Tap 3, and this is her 3rd year at R&C. Here are some other fun facts about Libee:

1) Libee’s favorite after school snack is ice cream, because who doesn’t love ice cream any time of the day???

2) Her favorite family tradition is playing Dirty Santa at Christmas. 

3) Her favorite style of dance is Jazz. 

4) Her favorite R&C moment was doing the Christmas show.

(She also likes to try and make her dog Nova smile for pictures 😄)

The Early Childhood Classes February Student of the Month is Isla Stephenson.

This is Isla’s first year at R&C, and she is living it up in creative ballet. Here are some other fun facts about Isla:

1) What is your favorite afternoon snack?
She says her favorite afternoon snack is “healthy food”. She says she likes apples, bananas, blueberries, strawberries, and ice cream. She says it’s her favorite because she “likes to eat it and be strong”.

2) What is your favorite thing to do with your family?
“Play with toys and watch Star Wars with Daddy”

3) What is your favorite prop to dance with in class?
“The cat! I love him. I wish I could bring him home!”

“Getting stickers!”

The JANUARY Leveled Classes Student of the Month is Veronica Zwink.

Veronica is a freshman at Woodward High School. She’s been in productions of The King & I, The Woodward Theatre Anniversary Show, and five Onstage Woodward Broadway Revues. She’s also on the high school soccer team. She takes tap, jazz, ballet, and pointe and is in her 3rd year at R&C.

1) What is your favorite subject in school and why?
My favorite school subject would have to be art. I love expressing myself not only through dance, but visual art as well.

2) What would you like to be when you grow up and why?
When i grow up I’d like to be an interior designer. I love organization and decorating!

3) what is your favorite style of dance?
My favorite style of dance is tap.

4) What is your favorite R&C moment so far?
So far my favorite R&C moment was dancing in the christmas show, The Elevator, this last christmas.

The JANUARY Early Childhood Classes STUDENT OF THE MONTH is Adalyn Compston!

Adalyn is a 2nd grader at Cedar Heights.  She is in Combo 3 – tap, ballet, intro to jazz and is in her 6th year at R&C.

1. What is your favorite subject in school and why?
Writing – because I like to use my imagination to tell stories.

2. What do you want to be when you grow up and why?
A vet or dance teacher like Miss Evie. Because I love animals and dancing.

Tap- because I like to make noise when I dance.

4. What is your favorite R&C moment so far?
All of the dance recitals I have been in. I like the costumes, makeup, and the lights on stage. I just really like all of my dance memories with my friends.

The November Leveled Classes Student of the Month is Giulia Angelini.

Giulia is a Junior at the Woodward High School and is a foreign exchange student from Italy. Giulia is taking Level 4 ballet and pointe and is assistant teaching in Level 3 Ballet.

I asked her to tell us a little bit about her life in Italy before coming to stay in Woodward:

“I live in a city called Alessandria (an hour and a half from Milan) and I live with my mom and dad. My half brother used to live with us but now he has his own house. My mom is a teacher in elementary school, and my dad is the head policeman of a town near where I live. Throughout the year, they’re usually really busy with work, and I usually come home late from dance, so we don’t really talk a lot during weekdays! But it’s also because of them that I’m here in the US. 🙂

Here are some other fun facts about Giulia:

1) What are you most looking forward to in an American Thanksgiving? I’m not really informed about Thanksgiving, but I know families usually reunite and eat a lot of food on Thanksgiving day, so I’m really excited about that!

2) What are you most thankful for and why? I’m really happy to be here in US and also I’m happy I found very nice people, at school, at home, and also at dance!

3) What’s your favorite thing about living in the US? I think my favorite thing about US is the school, it’s so much better than my Italian one, and I really like the food from here.

4) What is your favorite style of dance? My favorite type of dance is ballet because I’ve been doing it for over 12 years, but I also love contemporary dance, because you don’t really have rules to your body like in ballet, and you’re more free.

5) What has been your favorite R&C moment so far? I really like this period of the year when we’re all excited for Christmas and the Christmas show, and I literally can’t wait it to be ‪December 13th‬!! 🥰

The November Early Childhood Classes Student of the Month is Charlie North.

Charlie is a Kindergartener at the Woodward ECC. This is her 2nd year at R&C. Here are a few fun facts about Charlie:

1). What is your favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal? My favorite part is all the desserts!

2). What are you most thankful for? I’m thankful for the USA, my baby sister and my family.

3). What is your favorite style of dance? Tap dance is my favorite!

4). What is your favorite R&C moment so far? I love to go to dance bc Mrs. TeNeil is the best and most fun teacher and I love tap dancing with her and my friends!

Emma is a 2nd grader at Cedar Heights and is in Combo 3 (Tap, Ballet, Intro to Jazz). This is her 5th year at R&C!!

1. What is your favorite Christmas tradition? Each year I always look forward to the Angel Christmas Tree Program. I have always loved picking out Christmas gifts for kids who may not get a Christmas present otherwise.

2. What is your favorite Christmas movie and why? I absolutely love Elf! It’s such a joyful movie and always gets me in the Christmas spirit.

3. What is your favorite style of dance? Ballet is my favorite!

4. What is your favorite R&C moment so far? My favorite R&C memory is from our performance of The King and I. We had a performance on my fifteenth birthday and my dance family surprised me with a mini party backstage!

The November Leveled Classes Student of the Month is LEXI SHEIK!!!

Lexi is a student in Arnett Public Schools and is in her 3rd year of Tap 3 at R&C. Lexi has also been in Onstage Woodward’s production of Seussical and their 2017 summer Broadway Revue.

For about a year, Lexi has suffered from severe pain from a diagnosis called Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction in her pancreas. Through all of that, Lexi rarely missed a tap class and didn’t even ask to just sit and watch.

A short two weeks ago, she underwent a very risky surgery to try to solve the cause of her constant pain. I’m happy to report that Lexi is slowly on her way to relief from her pain. She’s not 100%, yet, but is making progress. She definitely deserves this Student of the Month recognition!!

Here are some other fun facts about Lexi:

1) What is your favorite food at your family’s Thanksgiving meal? My Grammy’s Fried Okra! It’s the best!
2) Where is your favorite place to visit? The ocean because it’s peaceful and beautiful.
3) How has dancing/the arts made you a better person? They make me more confident and happy.
4) What is your favorite R&C moment so far? Tap Dancing to “Bad”

She is a Kindergartener in the Heartland Homeschool Coop and is in her 2nd year at R&C as a dancer in the Combo 1 class.

1) What was your favorite part of this past summer?
I loved swimming lessons, because I have a good teacher and I get to slide down the slide.
2) What do you want to be when you grow up and why?
I want to be a Veterinarian, because I would be able to help the animals and give care and save the animals.

My favorite was when I did my “I Love Rock ‘n Roll” song and dance on stage last year, because it was really fun!

Woodward dance lessons student of the month

March leveled classes STUDENT OF THE MONTH is MACY DUNCAN!!

Macy is in the 8th grade at WMS where she just happens to be March’s student of the month, as well, and is in her third year at R&C. Macy is in level 3 ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, and musical theatre. She just finished up an 8 show run as a Birdette in Onstage Woodward’s Seussical the Musical.

1) Where is your favorite place to visit? The beach
2) What are you most proud of? I am most proud of being my own person
3) What is your favorite style of dance? Ballet
4) What is your favorite R&C moment so far? I have loved all of the shows choreographed by TeNeil. I also love dancing and performing with my dance family. They make me smile

December’s leveled classes STUDENT OF THE MONTH is EVE SPAETH!!!!

I was hesitant to give the award to this sweet girl because, well, it does appear rigged, so to speak, but she won it fair & square. I deemed it unfair to take it away from her just because I’m her mom.

Eve is in her 3rd year at R&C and in her 13th year of dance. She takes tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, and musical theatre. She is assistant teacher for all the early childhood classes, and I’m proud to say she will be starring in Onstage Woodward’s SEUSSICAL:THE MUSICAL as a “birdette” this spring.

Here are some fun facts about Eve:

Her favorite Christmas tradition is watching Santa Clause is coming to Town and Frosty the Snowman while putting up decorations.

Her favorite Christmas song is either It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas or O Holy Night

Her favorite moment at R&C so far is watching and listening to the audiences reactions to our dance concerts because it shows that people still care about dance as an art form and appreciate our performances.

Our leveled classes November Student of the Month is Ava Miller!!!

Ava takes ballet, tap, and jazz and is in her 1st year at R&C Dance.

Her favorite snack is POPSICLES.
Her favorite style of dance is TAP.
She loves dance because she LOVES THE TECHNIQUE OF IT, AND IT IS REALLY FUN!!

With an overwhelming majority of the student body vote, KOURTLEN DUNLAP is the leveled classes’ October Student of the Month. Kourtlen is a 6th grader at Woodward Middle School. She is in her 3rd year at R&C Dance and takes ballet, tap, jazz & musical theater. Kourtlen has danced in Grease, The King & I, and this past summer’s Onstage Woodward Broadway Revue.

Here are some fun facts about Kourtlen:
Her favorite breakfast food is homemade blueberry pancakes.
Her favorite style of dance is jazz.
She likes dance because she loves being able to express herself.
Her favorite R&C moment so far is when Mrs. TeNeil started R&C dance.

Our first October Student of the Month is OAKLEIGH DONALDSON. She is a Kindergartener at Sharon-Mutual Elementary. This is her second year at R&C Dance Classes in Woodward.
